Using ETO - FAQs

How does ETO work?

When you open a bottle of wine oxygen mixes with air and starts oxidation. Too much oxidation ruins any wine. ETO's unique, patented preservation system creates a seal between the wine and the air, reducing your wine’s exposure to oxygen, slowing down the oxidation process and keeping its great taste for longer.

I’m struggling to unscrew the glass base from the metal parts.

Sometimes the metal parts contract when they’re cold. Try rinsing your ETO in warm water, then dry and try again. There's no need to over-tighten the metal to the glass – it has no effect on the seal.

How much wine can ETO hold?

You can store a standard bottle of wine in ETO 750, that’s 750ml (25.4oz). The minimum is 175ml, equivalent to a medium glass. Or, that final glass.

Our original eto, fully extended, can hold 650ml of wine. That's a standard bottle, minus one glass. The minimum capacity is 175ml. We recommend opening a bottle, pouring yourself a glass, then decanting the rest into eto.

Need help to understand the size of your ETO? View our guide here.

Can I store ETO on its side?

A full ETO is the same height as a bottle of wine, designed to slot vertically into a fridge door. It's best not to lay it flat, as the seal might not hold.

Can I put ETO in the dishwasher?

No, ETO should always be hand-washed, without dish soap. That's why it's so easy to take apart and put back together.

How often should I clean ETO?

Wash ETO every time you empty it, by soaking it in warm water. No need for soap or detergent, which can affect the taste and aroma of your wine. If your ETO needs a deeper clean, use a soft brush and soak in a bicarbonate of soda solution for up to 24 hours.

The seals still smell after cleaning. What should I do?

Deep cleaning silicone seals

ETO shouldn't smell after washing. If any odours are lingering, you can remove them by heating the silicone seal. Put the black silicone seal on a baking tray and heat in an oven at 200C (400F) for 20 minutes. Need help to understand why you have an additional red seal? View our guide here. Our seals are food-grade silicone, so won't melt. But please don't put any other parts of your eto in the oven.

I broke the glass or lost a seal - where can I buy a spare?

Accidents happen, so spare parts for every ETO are available from the Shop.
